The real problem

Most of the decision happens before anyone calls you

SBR Innovative builds websites, Google Business Profiles, local SEO and enquiry handling for plumbers, roofers, electricians, HVAC and other home service businesses, from a studio in Chandigarh, India, working with owner-run firms in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia and India. The goal is that a homeowner with a leak or a broken boiler finds you, trusts you and gets hold of you in one go.

Most home service businesses have no shop front, so Google treats them as service-area businesses with their own rules. A profile set up the wrong way, reviews that stopped a few months ago or a quote form that is hard to use on a phone can send the job to the next name on the list.

We find those leaks first, then help you bring in more of the right customers.

Where jobs slip away

Six places home service businesses lose local jobs online

These are the gaps we check first on a home service website and Google listing.

01

A home address on a service business

Google asks businesses that do not receive customers at their premises to hide the address and show a service area. A visible home address, or a virtual office used as an address, goes against the guidelines and can put the profile at risk.

02

Reviews that stopped months ago

BrightLocal's 2026 survey found 74% of consumers only consider reviews from the last three months. Forty good reviews from two years ago can look weaker than twelve from this season.

03

Replies that never come

In the same survey, 89% of consumers said they expect owners to respond to reviews, and 50% were put off by templated replies. A short, personal reply to each review shows the next customer someone is paying attention.

04

One page for every service

Boiler repair, drain unblocking and bathroom fitting on one page. Someone with a burst pipe wants a page about that problem, and Google needs that page to show you for that search.

05

A number nobody can tap

On a phone, a number shown as an image or hidden in the footer means one more step before the call. The tap-to-call button belongs on the first screen of every page.

06

Enquiries that wait until evening

You are on a job when the form comes in. Without an instant reply or a missed-call text back, the homeowner rings the next name on the list while you are still working.

Checklist

A 12-point home service website and profile checklist

The list we work through on every home service audit. Go through it with your own site open on your phone.

  • Trade, towns covered and a call button on the first screen of every page on a phone.
  • One page per main service what it covers, how quickly you can come out and how to book.
  • A short quote form name, phone, postcode and the problem; nothing more to start.
  • Service areas listed the same towns on the website and in your Business Profile.
  • Address hidden on Google if customers do not visit you, with a service area set instead.
  • Real trading name on Google no city or service keywords added to the name.
  • Primary category that matches your main trade with your other services added in the profile.
  • A review request after every job sent the same day, to every customer, with no reward for the rating.
  • A personal reply to every review good or bad, in your own words.
  • Licences, insurance and guarantees stated plainly where your trade or country requires them.
  • Photos of real jobs and your team not stock images.
  • An instant reply to every enquiry and a missed-call text back while you are on site.

What homeowners type into Google and AI tools

Examples of searches a home service site should answer clearly, each with a page or a section of its own.

  • emergency plumber near me
  • boiler repair [your town]
  • roof leak repair cost [your city]
  • AC not cooling who to call
  • electrician open today near me
  • how long does a roof replacement take
  • best rated HVAC company in [your area]

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does a home service business website need first?

Your trade, the towns you cover and a tap-to-call button on the first screen of every page on a phone, followed by one page per main service. Someone with a leak is usually on a phone and wants to talk to a person, so make calling you the easiest thing on the page.

Should a plumber or roofer show their home address on Google?

No, not if customers do not visit you there. Google says that if your business does not have a storefront where you receive customers, you must hide your business address and set a service area instead.

How many service areas can I add to my Google Business Profile?

Up to 20, set as cities, postal codes or other areas you serve. Google recommends keeping the overall area within about 2 hours driving time of where your business is based, although it says a larger area can suit some businesses.

Can I add the city or my main service to my business name on Google?

No. Google's guidelines say unnecessary information in the business name is not permitted and can lead to suspension, and they list location and service details as examples. Use your real trading name and put services and areas in the right fields.

How many reviews does a home service business need?

There is no magic number, but recency matters. In BrightLocal's 2026 survey of 1,002 US consumers, 74% said they only consider reviews written in the last three months, and 47% said they would not use a business with fewer than 20 reviews. Asking after every job keeps reviews coming in.

Can we offer a discount for a 5-star review?

No. In the US, the FTC rule announced in August 2024 bars incentives conditioned on a review expressing a particular sentiment, positive or negative. Ask every customer, with no reward tied to the rating.

Are Google Local Services Ads worth looking at?

For many trades in the US, the UK, Canada and several European countries they are an option alongside search ads. Google says you pay for leads related to your business and that the Google Verified badge shows you passed its screening. We help you set it up and keep your profile and website consistent with it.

Do you work with small, owner-run businesses?

Yes. Most home service businesses we help are owner-run with a small team.

How much does it cost?

There are no fixed packages. After a free 15-minute call we look at what your business needs and give you a clear quote.

Can you work with our job management software?

Usually, yes. We connect enquiries to the tools you already use where possible.
